Sunday

 Sunday. Leaving day

We are made the priority again today. They moved the church service time to nine o’clock so we can make our flights. Another beautiful service with rousing music, earnest prayers, and a powerful message using the calling of the first disciples. Pastor Daniel spoke of action and attitude, energy and perseverance as we follow Christ. Our group added a song, Amazing Grace, and there were many “Amens” from the congregation when we finished. Steve gave a wonderful testimony, and Joann and Patti added special thanks. After final prayers and a sung benediction, the hugs and tears began. Aida gifted Lacey with an original art piece, an underwater scene of a turtle, her favorite. We all received hand-embroidered bags made by Chuy and small purses with painted animals. Inscribed on the gift bags “Thank you for giving us a week of your life.“ We are the ones who want to say thank you not only to our hosts but also to everyone who made this trip possible. To the Crossroads mission team who subsidizes us, to our own families who lived without us for a week, to the dog sitters and cat sitters, and especially to all those who prayed for us. We felt it. We thank you. Please keep us held up as we will struggle with reentry.  It is our prayer that these trips can continue, and we can sustain this important connection with Ministerio de Vida, helping them grow and meet their vision for the future

Most of all we simply say GRACIAS A DIOS, GLORIA A DIOS! Now and forevermore.

As I sit on my last flight to get home from Cancun, I realize how humbling it was to be on this mission trip. I had some hesitation before going not knowing what to expect. But the love and kindness shown to us by our host family was amazing and my hesitation soon disappeared. The slow paced life they live with the closeness of their extended family was comforting. They don't waste anything and are very inventive with how they meet their needs. Life is simple with a focus on family and faith. Being immersed in that environment took me back to my childhood and was a good reminder of what is really important in life. Being able to help with the needs of their church with concrete work and painting was rewarding. Their endless smiles and hugs were contagious. I am grateful to have been part of our team and am so glad I finally had the chance to serve in this capacity.
